Sega going the Nintendo route with their own Sega Genesis Mini, Sony changes policy to cancelling pre-orders on PSN, limited time April Fools Day events come to For Honor and Rainbow Six Siege, HE’S ON FIRE cheat code for RAGE 2, and Black Ops IIII is getting a new map for Blackout mode.
Doing it right this time
We’ve seen variants of the Sega Genesis mini before. In recent years we had the Sega Genesis Flashback that was not made by Sega themselves but At Games which received some negative reaction do to its poor emulation.
But in 2019, Sega is looking to do this right by releasing the Sega Genesis Mini made by the company themselves. The result is a replica mini Model 1 Genesis with 40 built-in-games complete with two USB 3-button classic controllers. These are wired controllers but lets hope that Sega has learned the lesson from Nintendo when it comes to cord length.
As for the 40 titles, only 10 have been revealed so far but it feels like a strong start to the lineup.
Sonic the Hedgehog
ToeJam & Earl
Space Harrier II
Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
Ecco The Dolphin
The Sega Genesis Mini also contains a USB Power adapter, power cable, and an HDMI cable. Where will it fall in the line of classic consoles made by Nintendo and Sony? We’ll find out on September 19th when the Sega Genesis Mini launches for $79.99.
Enticing players to pre-order titles has become a recurring theme in the past couple of years. “Pre-order and get access to the beta” seems to be a common place phrase to be heard after a trailer. And while some storefronts can make that easy (Gamestop, Amazon), Sony not so much.
But fear not, a change in the PlayStation Store cancellation policy might help with those who think twice about their pre-order. You can now cancel a pre-order anytime before the release date and receive a refund to your PSN wallet. If the release date comes and you have not cancelled, you’ll have 14 days past the launch date to receive a refund.
There is a caveat: if you have started to stream or download the title a refund is then not available. One would presume that this would cover pre-loads as well but that not specifically mentioned. This appears to be a nice change but the funds are going back to your PSN wallet and not to your actual bank account.
Joke’s on you, these are real
The video game community, developers and fans alike seem to have a lot of fun with April Fools Day. From obvious fake announcements to things that are pretty convincing, everybody seems to get into the spirit. Today, Ubisoft is having a ball.
In For Honor, Rabbids have invaded the title and will play the role of minions for today only. In a special one day event, you’ll encounter the Rabbids in your fight for honor. Participating in this event will result in earning a special melee pack. The event ends tonight at 9 PM PDT.
But that’s not the only Ubisoft game to get special treatment. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege also has a special event that will last until April 8th and its time to ride the rainbow.
The Rainbow is Magic event tasks players with rescuing a teddy bear from evil captors on a redone version of the plane map. You’ll choose from 13 classic Operators who have been given a magical treatment overhaul. The event adds 17 customization items that can be earned by completing Ubisoft Club challenges or by purchasing the Rainbow is Magic Collection Pack for 300 R6 credits.
April Fools Day is all about having fun and its very clear that Ubisoft is all about joining in.
HE’S ON FIRE!
In another “no, this is real” announcement, Rage 2 announced their HE’S ON FIRE cheat code. Pre-ordering the title gets you access to the cheat code that, when enabled, adds a narrator to the gameplay. Whom you might ask? Tim Kitzrow, the legendary voice of NBA Jam and countless other arcade titles, will comment on your gameplay. There are plenty of new lines that fit within the game itself but then the classic “He’s heating up!” and “BOOMSHAKALAKA” shouts are here. It’s silly but totally fits the style of RAGE 2.
Welcome to The Rock
Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is getting a free new map for Blackout starting tomorrow for PlayStation 4 players. The Alcatraz map focuses on combat with lots of close spaces. No Nicholas Cage or Sean Connery which might be a bummer for some. Sorry Xbox One and PC owners, you’ll have to wait until next month to visit Alcatraz.
