News Roundup March 26th

by Huey Chewwy in

All games shown in the ID@Xbox Game Pass presentation are coming to Game Pass on day one of release, EA lays off over 300 people, Streets of Rage 4 gameplay teaser, Samurai Showdown coming to the Xbox One and PS4 in June, Games With Gold lineup for April, and new releases for the week.

They all have something in common

Today’s ID@Xbox Game Pass video was brief and to the point by announcing upcoming indie titles arriving on Game Pass. Outer Wilds and Afterparty have extended looks with insight from the developers themselves and are worth checking out if you are interested in either game. Below is the list of titles shown in the video presentation and guess what, they are all coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one of release

  • Killer Queen Black

  • Outer Wilds

  • Void Bastards

  • Operencia: The Stolen Sun

  • Supermarket Shriek

  • The Good Life

  • Afterparty

  • Blazing Chrome

Knowing that all titles are coming to Game Pass on day one makes Game Pass a little more desirable. You might say that now has never been a better time to play video games.

April looks golden

With March almost over it is time to take a look at the Games With Gold lineup for April. Next month brings two Xbox One titles, and one title each from the Xbox 360 and original Xbox library respectively. The Technomancer will be available for free the entire month of April for Gold subscribers. Outcast: Second Conflict becomes free starting on April 16th.

On the other side of the fence, Star Wars Battlefront II (the good one) from the original Xbox will be free from April 1st through the 15th. On the 16th, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 goes free for Gold subscribers.

Oh, there will be blood

With a slick new look and plenty of stylish action, Samurai Showdown will be launching on the Xbox One and PS4 this June. You’ll be able to take the game on the go with the Nintendo Switch in Q4 of 2019 with a PC release set to arrive at a later date. For now, enjoy the new trailer!

Cutting back

EA is the next company to make the news with a round of layoffs. Announced today in a blog from EA CEO Andrew Wilson, 350 people are being shown the door. This one is a little different in rather than game studios being shuttered, it is the people trying to promote those titles. Wilson states that “we have made changes to our marketing and publishing organization, our operations teams, and we are ramping down our current presence in Japan and Russia as we focus on different ways to serve our players in those markets”

Even if these people are not actively making games themselves, they still do serve the purpose in getting said games out to an audience to enjoy. Also, 350 people being laid off is not a small number, even if EA employs over 9,500 people.

True to its roots

We do not seem to be any closer to a release date for Streets of Rage 4 but at least we got a better look at the gameplay today. In a brief but sweet trailer, Axel and Blaze smash through enemies with several of their signature moves. At one point we see an enemy being juggled between the two which is what any fan of the brawler genre wants to see.
