Reggie Fils-Aime anounces his retirement, free demo for Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee now in the Nintendo eShop, five more Xbox 360 games are backward compatible, Square Enix sale live on Steam, play TerraTech for free on Steam, and a new trailer for The Division 2 shows off the force you’ll encounter in the endgame.
Bowser reigns supreme
“My name is Reggie, I’m about kicking ass, and WE’RE about making games.” These were the words of Reggie Fils-Aime in his first appearance for Nintendo at E3 in 2004. Maybe not the phrasing Nintendo wanted him to use but we all loved his enthusiasm. We’ve seen that same excitement throughout the years, including the lead up and launch of the Nintendo Switch.
Reggie has been a Nintendo fan favorite which makes today’s news bittersweet as he has announced his retirement. This is not effective immediately as Reggie will be around for a bit more, until April. That is when his replacement will take over, Bowser.
Doug Bowser that is. Doug will take over as President of Nintendo America when Reggie steps down in April. How ironic is it that a person with the name of Bowser takes a high position in Nintendo? Let the meme’s begin.
Free trip to Kanto
Still a little iffy on Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee? Nintendo has a free demo up on the Nintendo eShop. Inside the demo you’ll be able to explore Viridian Forest to catch wild Pokemon and battle other trainers. Unfortunately, you won’t have your choice of either Pikachu or Eevee as the demo randomly assigns you one of them. Progress from the demo will also not be transferred over to the main game. Still, if you want to give this version of Pokemon a shot, it is a free one at that.
Hey, we still have free stuff too
Steam is still making a habit of offering free weekends for titles on their platform. TerraTech has that honor this weekend as you can start playing at no cost starting today. As for most games on free play, you’ll be able to grab TerraTech at 40 percent off as well during this period.
If you got more cash to spend, Square Enix has a sale on almost everything in its entire library. Final Fantasy games on Steam have pretty good discounts and speaking of free, Boundless is playable for free this weekend.
Stepping it up
A total of five Xbox 360 titles are coming to backward compatibility for the Xbox One today. Lost Planet, Lost Planet 2, Lost Planet 3, Lost Planet Colonies, and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X are now playable on your Xbox One.
Ready for the end
We’re not too far away from the release of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. Perhaps getting ahead of the game, a new trailer from Ubisoft shows a little bit of what players can expect from the endgame after they’ve completed the main missions.
Players will have to deal with The Black Tusk, a group that is organized and well armed with weapons and gadgets. They’re certainly not just some gang with a few shotguns. Fortunately, players can choose three specializations to even the odds against this formable group.
Don’t forget that Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 has a free beta from March 1st through the 4th.
