Desinty and Call of Duty: Black Ops III adding microtransactions, Kojima might actually be gone from Konami, notes from the Super Smash Bros. focused Nintendo Direct, and new releases.
Getting every last penny
Two big shooters, ironically both published by Activision, are receiving some microtransactions that may feel a tad unnecessary. Destiny has added level boosters as optional purchases within the game. Want to go from level one all the way to 25? all you need is thirty dollars. That is a lot of money to pay for... not playing the game. And while this really has no effect on gameplay, the act of adding in more microtransactions might get a little suspicious if no major content arrives for a while. The other Activision shooter, Call of Duty, added what they call "Call of Duty points". These points can be used to purchase cosmetic items such as new skins, new taunts, or even extra slot packs in multiplayer. You can see a trailer showcasing "The Black Market" where these items are purchased from by clicking here. It is almost surprising that only as of now that Activision adds a premium currency to Call of Duty, given how popular the title is.
And may headlines do you apart
The saga that is Konami and Hideo Kojima seems to have no end. Reports by Japanese site Nikkei and Wired state that Kojima has left Konami as of today, December 15th, with intentions to form a new studio consisting of several employees previously at Kojima Productions. The interesting piece of this story is that supposedly Kojima is in negotiations with Sony to release the first game from his yet-to-be-announced studio, first on Sony's platforms. This story is likely to come to an end at some point, and odds are it will before the end of the year.
Going out with a smash
Super Smash Bros received its final video presentation for additional content coming to both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game. The big hitters were two more DLC characters, with one coming from a Nintendo franchise and the other a third party title. Corrin from the upcoming Fire Emblem Fates will be arriving in February of next year. Just as in Fire Emblem Fates, you can choose to be a male or female version of Corrin. The second character is none other than Bayonetta herself, coming from the game of the same name. You might be surprised to know that she was the number one character worldwide in the Super Smash Bros ballet that asked fans who they wanted added into the roster as DLC. Along with her sweet looking moves is a new stage, Umbra Clock Tower. You might remember this from the opening of the first Bayonetta game, recreated for a stage in Super Smash Bros. As it stands now, February is the targeted release date for both Bayonetta and her unique stage to arrive in Smash.
But what about the recently announced Cloud from Final Fantasy VII? He's arriving later today, and might be available by the time you read this. Cloud comes packaged with the Midgar stage at a price of $5.99 for either Wii U or 3DS, and $6.99 for both platforms.
Also a couple new Mii fighter costumes will be available. You can show your love for Final Fantasy with a Chocobo costume, or celebrate your memory of Super Mario RPG with a Geno costume.
As for amiibo, R.O.B (in Famicom colors) will be joining Ryu and Roy for a March 17th release date in North America. Nintendo has also confirmed production on Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta amiibo as well.
But can I play as Ezio?
Crytek is working on a game for the Oculus Rift that takes climbing to a whole new level, seriously. The Climb features fantastic scenery as players make their way up cliffs and rock-faces across several environments. Controlling your climber can be done with either an Xbox One controller or the Oculus Touch controllers. Check out the trailer below for the first look at what could be an impressive title for the Oculus Rift.
