After rumors last week on the acquisition, today it is official; Microsoft will be purchasing Minecraft developer Mojang for $2.5 BILLION dollars. A statement on Mojang's website provides a few details at the moment. Minecraft will still be available on PS4, PS3, Android, and IOS platforms. The creator of Minecraft, Markus "Notch" Persson, does not want the responsibility to run something of Minecraft's size, which as the statement says, he never intended it to become so large. As well as Notch leaving, the other co-founder of Mojang, Jakob Porsér, as well as CEO Carl Manneh, will be leaving the company as well. There is no word on what will become of other Mojang projects such as Scrolls. Microsoft's deal could be absolutely huge, with the game not only as popular but the merchandise side being strong as well. Hopefully in the near future we will learn Microsoft's intentions with the Minecraft brand, and/if any major changes will happen.
