Nintendo revealed quite a bit today. First was their announcement of a new handheld, The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL (seriously, that's the name). The new models boast a second analog stick and two new shoulder buttons, ZR and ZL. The second analog stick is just above and to the left of the X and Y buttons, as well as being rather small. With a second analog stick, the two new shoulder buttons should give a nice comfort feel, while giving developers an easier time to incorporate the second analog stick. Amiibos will be able to be placed on the lower touchscreen, as the new handhelds will have NFC compatibility. You will be able to customize the New 3DS with changeable cover plates, with many different designs already being shown by Nintendo. New features also include longer battery life, improved CPU, a wider 3D viewing angle, a Micro SD slot, and an automatic brightness adjustment sensor. For more comparisons between the New 3DS and New 3DS XL, here is a link to show a little more information. As exciting as this news is, Nintendo is NOT releasing the New 3DS/New 3DS XL in North America or Europe this year. They will release in Japan on October 11th of this year.
The first 12 Amiibo figures were revealed today, as well as a price. While no release date has been revealed quite yet, the Amiibo figures will release to the price of $12.99. Along with the reveal of the figures, Nintendo did announce four new games that will support the Amiibo figures; Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10, Yoshi's Wooly World, and Mario Kart 8.
If you have been holding off of getting a Wii U, Nintendo has announced a new bundle coming in September. The bundle will include The Deluxe Nintendo Wii U with physical copies of Nintendo Land and Super Mario 3D World. Also announced was a bundle for the 2DS. This bundle will include a download code for Mario Kart 7 and 2DS in one of three different colors; Electric Blue, Crimson Red or Sea Green. The Bundle will sell for $130.
Come January, we will get two new Saints Row games. Saints Row IV: Re-Elected was announced for the PS4 and Xbox One, packaged with all the previous DLC. It will also come packaged with the newly announced standalone expansion Gat Out of Hell, that will feature the player playing as the infamous Johhny Gat to save the President (your character you create in Saints Row IV) from hell. This standalone will be available on January 27th for $19.99, while the Re-Elected editions will cost $50.
Here are a few other games that were announced as well as some release dates. Ultimate NES Remix will come to the 3DS on December 5th on e-shop and retail. Bayonetta 2 will release on October 24. Super Meat Boy Forever was announced but no release date given. It is being made for mobile and PC but is breaking the mold of the traditional endless runner with bosses, zones, and more. State of Decay will be coming to Xbox One next spring. Titled State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition, the game will run at 1080p and include the Breakdown and Lifeline expansions.
