Polygon is reporting that the Wildstar developer Carbine has been hit with a big layoff, effecting about 60 employees. The cuts to the studio are in part of a restructuring plan by NCSoft, that not only owns Carbine, but also the studios that develop Guild Wars, Aion, and Lineage. While nothing has been said that if the cuts were in relation to the success of Wildstar; but it is an interesting development as Carbine's only game released this year was Wildstar.
In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Red Barrel Games co-founder Philippe Morin confirmed that the developer is working on a sequel to the survival horror game, Outlast. Not many details are known at this time, other than that there will be new characters and settings.
Coming next year is an interesting little title called Lost Sea. Lost Sea is set inside a cartoon B-movie universe, where an otherwise normal individual (You!) is transformed into an intrepid hero. During a routine flight over the Atlantic Ocean, you are met with disaster which leaves you stranded on a mysterious archipelago, located deep inside the Bermuda Triangle. Lost Sea is a 3D strategy action game that takes place inside a procedurally generated environment. You are tasked with forming a crew of survivors, exploring the island, and gathering resources in order to escape. No release date was given, but expect Lost Sea next year in 2015.
With most of the focus on the next-gen version of WWE2K15, not much has been said about the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. It's been known that the last-gen versions would receive an exclusive mode to those versions, today the developers revealed the exclusive mode; Who's Got NXT? As the name applies, this mode focuses on five wrestlers from the NXT roster, Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville, Rusev, Corey Graves and Bo Dallas. Each wrestler has four matches to complete, each with their own stipulations and objectives. Completing objectives will unlock NXT arenas and belts; whereas completing all the matches for each wrestler unlocks them for play in other game modes. After all five wrestlers are unlocked, players will unlock Proving Ground, the spiritual successor to last year's Defeat the Streak. In Proving Ground, you are tasked with facing the cover boy of WWE2K15, John Cena. Initially only the five NXT superstars are available to play, but more wrestlers can be unlocked by defeating Cena with the NXT wrestlers. WWE2K15 releases next week, October 28th, for Xbox 360 and PS3, with the Xbox One and PS4 versions releasing on November 18th.
